Substitute Food Service Assistant
(Non-Exempt)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for assisting in the organization, preparation, cooking, and serving of food to students and adults.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists with the preparation and serving of food in accordance with established recipes and governmental and nutritional guidelines
Assists manager in maintaining standards of work, sanitation, and safety ensuring that food items are properly stored, cooked, shipped, and served in a safe, sanitary, and timely manner
Participates in a variety of food service operations and functions as needed, including serving food, selling food, and cleaning kitchen equipment and work areas
Communicates effectively with all staff and administrators
Demonstrates good work habits to include punctual and regular attendance
Reports to the Director of Food Service
Performs other related duties as assigned
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with principals, school staff and administrators

Ability to perform arithmetic calculations at the level necessary for satisfactory job performance
Ability to calculate figures and amounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing to large and small groups as well as individuals; ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with others
Tuberculin skin test certifying that the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis
LICENSE:
Must possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent; Knowledge of First Aid and CPR preferred; valid VA driver’s license; Serve Safe Certificate
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing duties of this position. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Employee must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs.
